And so, with 10 days to go until Expo is officially on us, we have some oh-so-predictable venue woes. After last week’s Mao Shanghai potential problems, we now have some potentially serious issues with the Beijing big brother. On April 9, Tizzy Bac – the Taiwanese popstrels that we highlighted as having issues last year HERE – performed at Mao in Beijing. Whether directly linked to this or not, the fire department turned up at the weekend and shut down the venue indefinitely.
Mao BJ has never managed to get the right set of fire permits as far as we know (though not through a lack of trying). Ostensibly, this is the reason for the closure. They will now reapply. Let’s hope they can get the pesky permits pushed through asap.
In other news, according to a snippet from Jake Newby HERE, LOgO venue in Shanghai was raided last weekend. Posters torn down and gigs banned
“On Friday night news filtered through that LOgO had been visited by the police. According to Tearpixy they had ripped down posters for the gig and taken away all the flyers. They told LOgO that the gig couldn’t go ahead and when asked for a reason, were supposedly told “the Expo”
We imagine Jake will follow up soon!
