Apparently undeterred by the sparse turnout at the Shanghai Grand Stage (400 tickets sold in a venue with 9,000 capacity), Far East Movement are coming back to China, this time Beijing, as part of the Beijing Mid Autumn Music Festival, which also features Hardwell and Dash Berlin. Details we know are that the “festival” (with more artists to be announced) will happen on September 19th at Beijing’s Worker’s Stadium.
With the Killers and Bieber also playing Beijing between Mid-Autumn Festival and October holiday, we guess it makes sense that the nation’s capital gets its fix of Eurohouse along with teenybopper and millennial throwback pop. The flipside is that the same thing might happen as Aerosmith or to a lesser extent, Shanghai Sonic: the glut of events clustered in a short period of time will result in audience attrition, meager sales and even possible cancellation (or at least unhappy sponsors and bankrupt promoters).
The promoters putting on this festival also run TingDong.cn, a social network aiming to “build China’s largest Foreign Service Alliance and to organize a Chinese international volunteer service group simultaneously.” After poking around the site, we conclude that it’s trying to do a lot – we see tabs for Tingdong TV, flight reservation and phone top-up – and that so far, most of the users seem like bots. Nevertheless, the festival itself sounds really interesting and the multiple mainstream EDM lineup is something that Beijing hasn’t seen in recent years.
