Something that came onto the Radar a few weeks ago, but has slipped under the international media net a little is the Summer Pilot Music Festival, put on by Pilot Records. Pilot Records is one of a “big three” Chinese independent labels that include Modern Sky and Maybe Mars. Pilot is also 3 years old, and home to the likes of Reflector, Ziyo and Spring and Autumn.
In an enormously ambitious effort to bring summer festival vibes to Beijing, Pilot will be curating 4 weekends (3 days each) of fun at a massive outdoor space next to Beijing’s Birds Nest Olympic Stadium. The space can hold 4-5,000 people. It certainly is an alternative take on music festivals in this country, but August in Beijing can be excruciatingly hot and the universities are out for the summer, so it will be interesting to see how well supported it actually is. Daily tickets are 50RMB, which seems like a good price to us.
You can visit the official site on Sina HERE, you can read Timeout’s interview with Pilot Founder Zeng Yu HERE and check out the promo video that’s been running on the Beijing metro below. We hope that Beijingers support!
