We posted a little teaser from PK 14’s latest album, 1984, earlier this week. Now Josh Feola over at SmartBeijing has an epic interview with the band’s lead singer and primary songwriter Yang Haisong about… well, almost everything. In addition to fronting one of China’s most iconic indie acts, Yang Haisong is a sought-after producer and important mentor figure to many young bands and artists around China.
You can read the entire interview here.
As with most Culture Bureau features, you’ll want to set aside a bit of time for it. Feola has established himself as one of the insightful interviewers currently writing for both English- and Chinese-language publications today and his questions for Yang go far beyond the typical queries about influences and aims to establish a written history of the still-young Chinese independent music scene while it is still being built.
