It was interesting to read today on Mashable that Youtube is planning to stream U2’s show from the Pasadena Rosebowl live on Sunday October 25th. You can read all about that HERE. There is a link in that article to the live stream of the Outside Lands festival, which was apparently the first time Youtube had done something like this. HERE. Outside Lands was at the end of August, 2009. The largest online video service in the West is planning to augment the U2 stream with live Twitter feeds.
Reeeeeewind back to April 18th 2009, to this article that we wrote HERE. China’s very own Youku streamed (in conjunction with Nokia) a concert live on a Sunday night.
The mini-site for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Interactive Online Concert consists of three sections: a live video stream of the concert, an interactive video press room, and a real-time archive for video clips of the concert. While watching the online concert, Youku users can choose their favorite angle from 4 different live streams in one window. They can also vote for their favorite performer, and the artist who wins the most online votes will give an encore performance at the show’s end. After finishing their on-stage performances, the artists will move to the interactive press room to answer questions submitted by netizens. Meanwhile, all the video clips will be archived in real time for later viewing.
For us, this is an interesting paradigm shift. Expect many more examples of real innovation coming out of China over the next few months and years!
