OK, so we started speculating on Beijing’s Show of Peace a couple of weeks ago, after news of Jimmy Page’s participation was blasted around the wires. Remember, this is the same Jimmy Page who appeared out of the top of a double decker bus with Leona Lewis at the Olympic Games handover ceremony, also at the Bird’s Nest. It seems that perhaps Jimmy really wants into China.
In any case, there was a press conference as promised yesterday. Who showed up (besides Page)? Well, Michael Jackson’s old guitarist Orianthi, United Nations Pathways to Peace representative Michael Johnson, and some CCTV bods. Also in attendance was Ian Stewart from Done and Dusted, a highly successful production company based out of London, who we imagine will not be doing this for free (please correct us if they are).
The conference went on to announce that the Black Eyed Peas, Joey Kramer and Joe Perry from Aerosmith, Lady Gaga and 50 Cent would all be appearing at the event. The last announcement struck us as slightly strange – isn’t 50 Cent a self confessed ex-crack dealer? Will his songs pass the censors?
Anyway, although these artists aren’t the first ones we would think of when it comes to Peace, we applaud the effort. It will certainly draw attention to the event and hopefully the cause. Good luck to them.
